We know you care about the planet. So do we. As the leading provider of preventive veterinary care with 1,000 hospitals across the U.S., we recognize that we have a unique opportunity to re-imagine a profession where consideration for the planet is baked into everything we do.
Mars Net Zero Roadmap
We are not alone. We are part of Mars Veterinary Health and Mars, Inc., a privately-owned company, that shares our passion for the planet. Recently, Mars announced its Net Zero Roadmap, an action plan for achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, including a new target to cut carbon in half by 2030 across its full value chain. This work supports the Mars Inc. Sustainable in a Generation Plan, aimed at reducing Mars’ total environmental impact in line with what science says is necessary to keep the planet healthy. Mars Veterinary Health and Banfield are taking action to contribute to this commitment.
Recycling Program
We are rolling out a nationwide recycling program and are exploring additional programs that will reduce our environmental impact, especially when it comes to travel and pharmaceutical stewardship. We are also working with Mars Veterinary Health and our suppliers to reduce waste in supply chains across our profession.
Renewable Electricity
We have some wins to celebrate. For example, in 2022 Mars Veterinary Health made the exciting announcement that all their U.S. practices—including Banfield and our sister practices VCA and BluePearl—are now sourcing renewable electricity from a large-scale wind farm in Ford Ridge, Illinois.
